Prof. Samir K. Brahmachari is the pioneer of functional genomics in India.
He was the Founder-Director of Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology,
New Delhi, prior to which he was a Professor in Molecular Biophysics Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
Prof Brahmachari made fundamental contributions in elucidating the role of
repetitive DNA in genome function using a trans-disciplinary approach,
integrating structural biology with genomics, molecular biology and information science.
He successfully led the well-recognized Indian Genome Variation Project towards establishing the
human genome variation in multi ethnic, multilingual populations of India as a national resource. Prof Brahmachari mentors Dhiti Omics team in its pursuit to develop affordable and actionable diagnostics by utilizing genomics and computational biology tools.
